Position Title: Surf Coach
Period: Oct 25 - April 2026 
Employment Type:
- Senior SURF Coach (1 Position Available - roughy 20 hours a week)
- Senior SKATE Coach (1 Position Available - roughy 20 hours a week)
- Junior Coach (1 Position Available - roughly 5 hours weekly)
Wage: Competitive and depending on the applicants experience


Job Overview:
We are seeking experienced and skilled Coaches to join our dynamic team at Average Joe's. The ideal candidates will have a passion for surfing/skating and teaching, excellent communication skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate students of all ages and skill levels. As a Coach, you will be responsible for providing high-quality sessions with a focus on progression, ensuring the safety of all participants, and promoting a positive and fun learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct lessons for individuals and groups, ranging from beginner to advanced levels.

  • Assess students' abilities and tailor lessons to meet their specific needs and goals.

  • Provide clear and concise instructions on techniques, ocean/skatepark safety, and etiquette.

  • Be able to demonstrate and explain proper technical elements e.g paddling, standing, turning, manoeuvres etc.

  • Supervise students, ensuring their safety and providing real-time feedback.

  • Educate students on ocean conditions, wave dynamics, and surfboard handling to the appropriate ability. (SURF COACH)

  • Foster a positive, supportive, and encouraging atmosphere during lessons.

  • Maintain and inspect equipment, ensuring it is safe and in a functional condition.

  • Assist with the setup and pack down of lesson equipment and materials.

  • Keep accurate records of student attendance, progress, and any incidents or injuries.

  • Stay current with industry trends, safety protocols, and techniques.

  • Participate in promotional and community events to represent our school.
     

Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Coach.
A thorough understanding of techniques and safety.
Valid coaching certification if applicable (e.g., ISA Level 1 or equivalent).
Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Adequate level of fitness and knowledge of ocean safety.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with students of all ages and skill levels.
High level of patience, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
Availability to work flexible hours, potentially including weekends and public holidays.
Full Drivers Licence (Automatic) for the senior coach roles

Preferred Qualifications:
Level 1 or 2 ISA (Surfing)

Beach Lifeguard certification or equivalent (Surfing)
Fluent in English
Experience with surf/skate school operations or related coaching activities.
Full Drivers Licence (clean and automatic) for the senior coach role

Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting surfboards/skateboards and equipment.
Comfortable working in various weather conditions.
Strong endurance and stamina to conduct multiple sessions daily.
