Position Title: Senior Surf Coach
Period: Oct 2024 - April 2025
Employment Type: Full-Time (1 Position Available - roughy 20+ hours)
Part-Time (1 Position Available - roughly 10 hours)
Wage: Competitive and depending on the applicants experience
Job Overview:
We are seeking experienced and skilled Surf Coaches to join our dynamic team at Average Joe's. The ideal candidates will have a passion for surfing and teaching, excellent communication skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate students of all ages and skill levels. As a Surf Coach, you will be responsible for providing high-quality surf instruction with a focus on progression, ensuring the safety of all participants, and promoting a positive and fun learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct surf lessons for individuals and groups, ranging from beginner to advanced levels.

Assess students' abilities and tailor lessons to meet their specific needs and goals.

Provide clear and concise instructions on surfing techniques, ocean safety, and etiquette.

Be able to demonstrate and explain proper paddling, standing, turning, manoeuvres etc.

Supervise students in the water, ensuring their safety and providing real-time feedback.

Educate students on ocean conditions, wave dynamics, and surfboard handling to the appropriate ability.

Foster a positive, supportive, and encouraging atmosphere during lessons.

Maintain and inspect surf equipment, ensuring it is in safe and functional condition.

Assist with the setup and breakdown of surf lesson equipment and materials.

Keep accurate records of student attendance, progress, and any incidents or injuries.

Stay current with industry trends, safety protocols, and surfing techniques.

Participate in promotional and community events to represent the surf school.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Surf Coach.
A thorough understanding of surfing techniques and safety.
Valid surf coaching certification (e.g., ISA Level 1 or equivalent).
Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Strong swimming ability and knowledge of ocean safety.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with students of all ages and skill levels.
High level of patience, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
Availability to work flexible hours, potentially including weekends and public holidays.
Full Drivers Licence (Automatic)
Preferred Qualifications:
Level 1 or 2 ISA
Beach Lifeguard certification or equivalent
Fluent in English
Experience with surf school operations or related coaching activities.
Full Drivers Licence (clean and automatic)
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting surfboards and equipment.
Comfortable working in various weather conditions.
Strong endurance and stamina to conduct multiple surf sessions daily.
